Mobile/SMS Authentication (with OTP)
Mobile/SMS Authentication prompts guests to enter their mobile phone number as part of the network authentication process. A one-time password (OTP) is sent via SMS to the provided number and must be entered on the validation page before access is granted. Depending on operator configuration, the provided mobile number and optional, operator-defined fields may be stored locally on the device.
To use this feature, an account with an SMS service provider (such as SMS Global or Clickatell) is required.
Follow these steps to enable Mobile Login Authentication:
Step 1 - Configure Captive Portal appearance
- Log in to the Admin Panel to manage your Captive Portal.
-
Customize the Global texts and Landing page settings in from Captive Portal > Landing Page.
-
Personalize Media Content by uploading media files to Captive Portal > Media Gallery.
- Add your custom Terms of Service and Privacy Policy texts in Captive Portal > Legal Compliance.
Step 3 - Enable Mobile Authentication
Scroll down to the "Guest Authentication" section.
- Select the checkbox for Enable Mobile/SMS Authentication. This will prompt users to enter their mobile phone number. The system will send a one-time password (OTP) via SMS to the user, which they must enter to gain access. The mobile number, along with any other collected information, may be stored locally on the device, depending on configuration.
Step 4 - Customize Mobile Login Fields
- SMS Authentication Title: Set a title for the mobile login method (e.g., "Connect with your mobile").
- SMS Authentication Main Text: Provide a brief description (e.g., "Use your phone number to get internet access").
- Mobile Label Text: Customize the mobile input field label (e.g., "Enter your mobile").
- Mobile Validation Text: Ensure the correct validation for the mobile field (e.g., "Please enter your mobile phone").
Extra Fields:
- Field 1: Label (e.g., "Name") with validation (e.g., "You must enter an answer").
- Field 2: Label (e.g., "Surname") with validation (e.g., "You must enter an answer").
- Field 3: Label (e.g., "City") with validation (e.g., "You must enter an answer").
Any non-required extra fields that are left empty are automatically hidden from the guest.
Step 5 - SMS Spam Protection
Enable SMS spam protection to limit repeated OTP requests. Customize the error message (e.g., "Please try again later!") if users attempt to request multiple OTPs within a short period.
Step 6 - Configure SMS Connectivity
To send SMS OTPs, you will need an account with SMS Global, Clickatell, or another SMS provider.
Step 7 - Save Changes
Once you've configured the Mobile Login fields and connectivity settings, click Save to apply the changes.
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Operators are responsible for configuring authentication settings, optional data fields, data retention policies, and ensuring compliance with applicable data protection and telecommunications regulations.
- Data Storage: Mobile numbers and any additional guest information (e.g., name, surname, city) may be stored in your database, depending on configuration. Be sure to inform users about data usage via your Terms and Privacy page. You can update and customize your service terms and privacy policy on the Legal Compliance page to reflect how guest data is being handled.
- SMS Customization: Customize SMS text and OTP messages by going to Captive Portal > OTP Validation Page.
- Concurrent Login Methods: Mobile Login can be combined with other authentication methods such as Email Connect, Facebook Login, or Voucher Login. For example, guests can connect using their mobile number while also having the option to log in via Facebook or email.
By following these steps, guests can connect using their mobile phone number through an OTP-based validation process.
